The Origins of a Mechanical Passion (1917–1942)

In 1917, in the heart of the Swiss Jura, Charles Muller founded his tool machine business in Bévilard. This entrepreneurial venture initially served the watchmaking industry, the economic backbone of the region. In 1929, the company moved to Bienne, marking a first major shift in its development. Confronted with the watchmaking crisis of the 1930s, the company showed adaptability and diversified to meet the needs of various industrial sectors. In 1942, a new chap-ter began: Félix, Serge, and Marcel, Charles’ sons, took over and created the current public limi-ted company.

In the following decades, Muller Machines SA experienced continuous growth. In 1966, the company established its first warehouse with a floor space of 1,400 m². A year later, following the death of Félix Muller, his son Michel joined the management team, ensuring the continuation of the family legacy. In 1983, Muller Machines SA reached another major milestone by opening one of Europe’s largest used machine tool centers in Brügg/Bienne, offering a permanent exhi-bition over 12,000 m² – a unique space that solidified the company’s reputation.

In 2001, the company reached a new level with the creation of Muller Group SA and the establishment of the Realtools SA tool store in modern premises at the main site in Brügg/Bienne. In 2002, at the Swiss National Exhibition, Muller Machines SA inaugu-rated its own machine tool museum, complete with a multifunctional room for conferences and events: the Muller Centre. After the passing of Serge Muller in 2004, his son Laurent joins the Board of Directors. In 2008, the company expanded further with the opening of an exhibition space in Ticino.
